Protec Closes Out its inaugural season & looks to extend 3-game winning streak

For Immediate Release

Somerset, NJ – The Protec Jr. Ducks enter the last weekend for the Eastern Hockey League's (EHL) 2020-21 regular season with a three-game winning streak.

The streak marked a season-high for head coach Terry Watt and company, and the flock sits in fourth place for the South Division. Additionally, the Jr. Ducks improved to 14-15-6 (34PTS) after defeating the Philadelphia Little Flyers, Connecticut RoughRiders and New York Apple Core.

Let’s recap the three victories and preview Protec’s final countdown for its inaugural season.

Migrating West

The Jr. Ducks earned their third win against Philadelphia (3-1) for the season and in convincing fashion. Protec’s Nick Newman recorded two goals and chipped in one assist, while Olivier Charest also posted a three-point effort (1g-2a).

Goaltender Matt Sayles stood tall between the pipes and turned away 31 shots. The newly acquired goaltender posted his second win since joining the flock via trade (New Jersey 87’s) and was also named one of the EHL's Top Performers for Week #20.

Back At The Pond

The Jr. Ducks followed up the road victory with a back-and-forth affair against the RoughRiders on Wednesday at the Pond. Protec took down its division rival by a score of 8-5, and team captain Brody Selman led the way with his first hat trick of the year. Yet, forward Connor Tartaglione netted one goal and recorded two assists.

Protec’s Spencer Quinn also recorded a multi-point effort, after No. 43 found the back of the net once while chipping in two helpers.

Overcoming Adversity

It wasn’t easy, but the Jr. Ducks extended their winning streak to three games after a dramatic comeback win on the road at Apple Core in Brewster, NY. The Jr. Ducks entered the third period trailing New York, 5-3, but received timely goals from Tartaglione and Tyler Ebeling. The 18-year-old in Ebeling tallied the game-tying goal 7:08 into the game’s final frame and the tally marked his 11th on the year and 28th point overall.

The contest’s heroics were earned from team captain, Brody Selman. The Mahwah, NJ native scored 1:28 into overtime and netted his third game-winning goal of the year. Selman, 20, leads the Jr. Ducks with 36 points (14g-22a) this season.

What's Next

Protec caps off its regular season with a road contest on Sunday vs. the New Jersey 87’s at Jersey Shore Arena for a 12:30 p.m. puck drop. While the Jr. Ducks haven’t defeated the EHL’s 2020-21 regular-season champions, Protec has displayed valiant efforts against the blue and gold.

The flock then flys back to the Pond for back-to-back contests against the Little Flyers on Monday and Tuesday. The time slots for those games are 11:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectfully.
