Charest is ready to fly at NCAA Level

For Immediate Release

Somerset, NJ – The Protec Jr. Ducks are proud to announce that forward Olivier Charest officially committed to the University of Wisconsin Stout for the 2021-22 season.

The Blue Devils are an NCAA Division III program and members of the Wisconsin State University Conference (WSUC). The University is located at Menomonie, WI, and the Men’s Ice Hockey program is led by head coach Mike MacDonald.

Charest, 20, has recorded 16 points (6g-10a) in 17 games played with the Eastern Hockey League’s (EHL) Jr. Ducks. Additionally, the La Prairie, QC native has posted five points on the power play (1g-4a) and one shorthanded tally.

The University contacted Charest when he started the 2020-21 campaign with the North American Hockey League’s (NAHL) Minnesota Wilderness, but it seemed that the NCAA program gained further interest after watching him skate with Protec.

“They (Blue Devils) started to watch a few games when I transferred to Protec and the process went very fast,” said Charest. “I think just school-wise, hockey wise and finically it was just the best fit for me.”

Jr. Ducks head coach Terry Watt also expressed his excitement for Charest.

“Olivier is a dynamic player and you notice him every time he’s on the ice," said Watt. “He’s a big body with a lot of skill. We’re thrilled for him and we wish the best of luck with his college hockey career.”

While Charest is “super excited” to lace up the skates for his new team next season, the 6-foot forward also shared his recruitment process.

“I can definitely assure that the EHL is a challenging league and I think that the EHL can get you ready for the NCAA level,” said Charest. “As far as the Jr. Ducks and Terry, they’re working hard to put us in contact with universities and in goods ways for sure.”

Protec is skating in its inaugural season for the EHL and is a member of the league's South Division.
