Ducks' forecast entails a home-at-home with 87's

For Immediate Release

Somerset, NJ – While two games were postponed due to the snowstorm in the Northeast, the  Protec Jr. Ducks are scheduled for a home-at-home series with the New Jersey 87’s on Super Bowl weekend.

Protec hosts the 2020-21 South Division champions on Friday for a 12:00 p.m. puck drop at the Pond. The contest marks the fifth and sixth meetings between the in-state rivals, but the 87’s have won all four contests. Still, it seems that the Jr. Ducks typically provide New Jersey with trouble and have kept a majority of those contests close on the scoreboard.

The 87’s collected a victory over Protec on Sunday, Jan. 24, and by a score of 5-2. However, the contest was a 3-2 score with 7:00 remaining in regulation.

The last outing at the Pond for the Jr. Ducks was a 4-3 victory over the Connecticut RoughRiders, which witnessed timely goals from Spencer Quinn and Brody Selman. Quinn, 20, recorded a late third-period tally while Selman netted the game-winning goal with just 00:09 left in the game’s final frame.

The Jr. Ducks enter the contest with one win in their last four, but it’s seems that there could be a cure for the team’s recent woes. Team captain Brody Selman expressed that Protec needs to “play our game” and for a “full sixty-minutes" if the Jr. Ducks want to collect points in the standings.

Keep in mind that Protec ranks fourth in the EHL with an average of 3.62 goals-per-game (GPG). It seems that the Jr. Ducks’ offense is lethal, but Protec likely should stay disciplined and avoid turnovers if the flock wants to earn points in the standings this weekend.

Additionally, Sunday’s contest is set for a 3:20 puck drop at Jersey Shore Arena in Wall, NJ – home of the 87’s. So, yes, the EHL witnesses a full weekend of Jersey hockey and a Super Bowl Sunday showdown on the Shore.
