Jr Ducks add depth to their coaching and development staff

The Protec Jr Ducks would like to take this time and welcome Lenny Caglianone, Joe Gambardella and Ray Vellejo

Assistant Coach Lenny Caglianone comes to the Jr Ducks after an impressive playing career that was cut short due to injury. Caglianone, played at the prestigious Shattuck St. Mary’s before going on to play at the Tier 2 and Tier 3 junior levels. Coach Lenny would go onto play NCAA hockey at the D3 level where he was named team captain in his senior year. After college Coach Lenny played two years of professional hockey before signing on with the Jr Ducks for the 2020/2021 season.

“Lenny is the real deal, his attention to detail and understanding of today’s game and today’s players separates him from most coaches. He has played at every level and knows what it takes to win and help our players develop so they can move on to the college ranks. Lenny has been instrumental to our teams hot start this season and I couldn’t ask for a better coach to work with each day. It’s only a matter of time before he’s running his own team” -GM/Head Coach: Terry Watt

Joe Gambardella has taken on the role as the head skills and development coach for the Jr Ducks. Gambardella is currently on a two-way deal with the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers and their AHL affiliate, Bakersfield Condors. Joe is the owner and head instructor for arguably the best skills development program in the Tri-State area (Stride 2 Greatness).

“Joe’s resume speaks for itself. Having a guy around our players that still plays in NHL/AHL games is such an asset for our team. Joe, a former D1 hockey player and current pro talking to my guys and working on their skills each day is a tremendous advantage we have at the Jr ducks. The guys love being around Joe and learning from him each day, we as an organization are lucky to have Gambardella around working with the Jr Ducks” -GM/Head Coach: Terry Watt

Assistant Coach Ray Vellejo has quickly made a name for himself within the youth hockey ranks. Coach Ray’s teams are always at the top of the standings each year as he has the great ability to connect with his players and develop them the right way. Ray is known for his skating and edge work classes that he teaches to over 100 plus youth players each year.

“Coach Ray has been great for us, he helped prepare and lead our teams main training camp this year and has been an asset to have around from week to week. Coach Ray will be doing most of our video and analytics this season” – GM/Head Coach: Terry Watt
